Dr. Stijn van Dongen

Senior Data Operations Engineer

Stijn is an engineer and a mathematician who loves to create machines that click together and perform seamlessly. He designs software, processes and infrastructure to facilitate data handling and bioinformatic analysis at scale.

Bio

After graduating in mathematics and a PhD in applied mathematics, Stijn has worked in roles spanning science and software. He has developed algorithms and software tools in areas such as microRNA expression analysis, mRNA profile mining, data clustering and network analysis. The main technologies used were high performance computing (C), statistical computing (C and R), and distributed computing (Nextflow on Linux batch systems). During his career in academia he authored several software packages, some of which are widely used.

Stijn’s focus at ExEd is to ensure accessibility and provenance of software and data across the organisation in processes that operate efficiently at scale and speed.
